Jan. 30th, 2006 08:48 pmSo I jumped on the Knifty Knitter train and I've been busy ever since. I have pictures of my most recent finished project...

This set was for a friend who has been complaining that hats won't stay on her head because of her ponytail (she's got really long hair). So I made this for her...
Back view of the hat:

And a side view:

Specifics: Moda Dea Wild! yarn in "Titanic," it took just over two skeins using doubled yarn on the green loom of the Knifty Knitter set for the hat. Four skeins (doubled yarn) for the scarf [6 ft. length, 7 inches wide]. Argh. I should add that this was double-knit (one-over-two loops).
To make the hole for the ponytail, I knitted a couple rows past the brim, then worked a panel-type of knitting for about an inch and a half. I started with the regular "start" peg [next to the looping peg on the rim] and knitted to all but the last peg, then turned around and knitted in the opposite direction, back and forth and back and forth until the gap was large enough. Then I just knitted in complete circles for the rest of the hat as usual. I went back and reinforced the hole's edges and wove back in the loop I had "dropped" with a buttonhole stitch using the same yarn.
edited to add: My friend just got her hat and scarf today and she says she loves them. Squee!
