Someone just recently mentioned trading on here and I thought that sounded really cool. So I checked out the community
craftgrrltrade and was disappointed at all the store promos and selling posts there. The maintainer of that community isn't enforcing the rules put forth in the community info in regards to that type of post. I also looked at
ljswaps,
trade_stuff, and
swapshop only to find the same type of posts.
So, although it may be redundant, I was thinking of starting a swapping community that is a strict swap-only community.
Here are my rough ideas for such a community:
In this community, individuals would be able to set up trades between each other for homemade items and/or supplies. The Original Poster should state what item he or she has available to swap and what type(s) of items would or would not be acceptable from his or her swap partner.
I also think it would be fun to have a monthly themed swap (e.g., March could be 'Swap Your Favorite Cookies') in which many people sign up and are partnered with someone else on the sign-up sheet. The way this would work would be the odd-numbered participants on the list swap with the people directly below them on the list and the even-numbered participants swap with the people directly above them. So, the first person on the list would trade with the second person on the list. The third person on the list would trade with the fourth person on the list, and so on. [If there isn't an even number of people signed up, I would take on the responsibility of swapping with the extra person (which would mean I would sometimes be swapping with two people per monthly swap).]
The rule of thumb will be to 'swap at your own risk.' People who don't follow through on their swaps will be black listed. That is all the punishment I will be able to dole out.
Why mention this community here before it has even been created? Because I would like a partner in crime.
I would like to play the part of silent enforcer, maintainer of the black list, maintainer of the community info page, and co-thinker-upper of monthly swap ideas. The only thing I don't want to do is be the person who posts the monthly themed swaps.
My partner would have the following duties: help me come up with ideas for the monthly themed swaps and make the posts regarding them. He or she would be proactive in coming up with an idea on her own and posting it if I forgot to collaborate with her every now and then. If she wants, she can do more than this, but wouldn't have to.
Any interest? Any volunteers?
