Emergency fabric dying tips, please!
Feb. 8th, 2006 03:10 pmI'm sorry that my first post in the community is text-only (hi, i'm kandiss, 22, and i live in chicago. i'm into learning about messing around with furniture - sanding, re-staining, varnishing, decopauging, etc.), but i have an eeeeemergency. i'm not experienced with fabric dye and i don't want to make an already bad situation worse. i did check the memories but couldnt find anything specific to this situation.
my boyfriends favorite, favorite sweatshirt ever got bleach stains on it. its a black sweatshirt with a screen printed design that is also done in black. so its all black. what is the best way for me to go about fixing this? i have heard that RIT dye fades and does a number on the washing machine so i'd like to avoid this one...other people in the house use the washing machine and they dont want black clothes, i'm sure. so, should I:
spot treat the fabric with a fabric dye and wash it using the directions on the bottle?
dye the whole thing with a fabric dye (because the screen print is the same color as the shirt)? will this make the bleached sections still look lighter than the rest of the shirt?
paint the area with fabric paint? i don't want it to be stiff...
any help you could offer would be greatly, greatly appreciated. and i promise that my next post will be full of vibrantly stained furniture and glitter table-tops and pull down shades with naked ladies painted on them. i promise!
