how to make a blanket

I'd like to make a blanket for my toddler... it "sounds" simple enough in my head. Just wondering if anyone out there has made one, has instructions, advice, etc.

I'm not so much interested in quilting, but rather, sewing to pieces of fabric together and stuffing. Does that sound right/familiar?
