[identity profile] the-talk.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
So I wanted to start a knitting/crocheting club at school and make stuff for the needy/homeless in the area. I am planning to propose this idea to my Principal tomorrow when I see him during school. Due to it shortly being summer, I'm not sure what to have people make but I wanted to stick to basic square/rectangle patterns. Here is my project proposal that I have so far....

If any of you have any suggestions or advice, please help me because I'm very very nervous he'll say "heck no!" and want to make this the best I can, b/c this means A LOT to me.

p.s.-If this post is irrelevant I will delete it. let me know.

I hope that the edit worked, sorry about the mess-up. Let me know if it's still fudged. New Club Proposal

Name: Knitting/Crocheting For the Needy

Idea:

Teach others how to knit, crochet, or possibly how to do both. Have them make 2 or more 5 by 5 inch pieces and sew them together to make blankets. Or have them make 1 or more scarfs approxiametly 2-3 feet long each, or hats that can be made a device called the Knifty Knitter (a loom).

Supplies:

Have each person attending the meeting bring in any size knitting needles (size 8 or up) or crochet hooks(size 8 or up).

If you own a knifty knitter or loom then you can bring that, but they are expensive so buying a hook or needles will be cheaper.

You will need yarn, it can be cheap or expensive yarn. If you are a beginner knitter/crocheter, stay away from fuzzy eyelash type yarn, boucle, ribbon,

The best kind of yarn for beginners is a thicker, plain type yarn so you can see your stitches. Yarn can cost from 1 dollar to beyond what you will want to spend. Some good cheaper yarns are…

Red Heart-Classic or Super Saver

Lion Brand-Jiffy Quick (it is thicker and will work fast)

I would like to hold a meeting to see how much interest the student body has in this project or club. Then after have two meetings in which the attendees will be taught how to do their desired craft. There after I would like to hold 1 meeting a month where everyone turns in they’re completed project(s). Then have a volunteer staff help put together the blankets and take them to a homeless shelter, or a place that will distribute the finished projects out. Due to it being summer I would prefer more blankets then hats/scarfs. I also have a pattern for slippers made out of squares that is relatively easy.
