[identity profile] sassi214.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl

When I first arrived at craftgrrl, oh those many months ago, one of the first things I came across was [livejournal.com profile] kickandslide's AWESOME handmade felt book she had made for her daughter. I was amazed and impressed and knew this was something I wanted to do for my wee lad. I set forth. Now mind you this was way back in September that I started this project and I just finished it TODAY. Not only am I challenged with the fact that I can really only work on projects when Matty is in bed or my husband is home, I totally have ADD when it comes to crafting and many projects have been started and completed in these past months while the poor felt book was put aside, then worked on, then put aside, then worked on, then put aside. Sigh. But today was the day! It is done and it is awesome and I love it and I think the chicken likes it too. That's what I'm telling myself anyways, because it was a lot of hard work!

Okay, phew, I'm rambling so here we go with the pictures already.

I loved kickandslide's book so much, I initially found myself taking some details directly from it. I soon realized though that I wanted Matty's book to be from me and what I could come up with and I tried to create different pages even though I was using the same medium and idea. The cover really speaks of this as it's completely derived from my little man. The first three pics are misc. pics of my chicken and you can notice that his favorite sweatshirt, cute little sneaks, and Green Bear are all front and center in felt on the cover. It's my most favorite part!

A turtle! In a tophat! Alongside a hippo! In a hottub! With a rubber ducky! I'll stop now.

Circus elephant (although I really don't condone performing animals!) alongside a walrus on an iceberg.

Ahhh, and there it is.
It's all made by my hands along with craft felt, embroidery thread, cardboard (for inside the pages), a few beads, and lots of love. Okay, I know how corny mushy that is, but it's TRUE!
I'm totally a big proud dork and I kinda just like looking at it now in all its finished glory!

Thank you for taking the time to look (and scroll through a million pictures!).
And thank you to [livejournal.com profile] kickandslide for your inspiration!

Cheers all!
Happy Saturday!
