Fake fur question and jewellery
Mar. 20th, 2006 12:18 pmLast Halloween, I made a black faux fur muff as part of my costume. This weekend, I went on a muff kick again, dug the one I had made out of my closet and realized that, if I'd line it with some warm fabric and fix the one major problem with it, it would be cute enough to wear as a really novel handwarmer come next fall. I have other, fleecey fabric to use as the lining. The one problem is that the furry material (5$ fun fur from Wal-Mart) sheds like crazy. It's very annoying. If I hold the muff for a few minutes, I get black furs all over me, and I'm sure the fabric will go totally bald after handling it a few times. So, fellow craftgrrls, my question is: is there any way I could seal the fabric together? Like, a sealant spray that would make it less likely to shed and fall apart? I'd be okay with some changes in the texture. And, if nothing like that exists, is there any better kind of fur-like material that won't cost a lot of money?
Thanks very much.
If it would only stop shedding so much!

'Portrait miniatures' of Oscar Wilde (green brooch) and Plato and Aristotle from Raphael's The School of Athens (pendant).
'Power from the green witch, lost beneath the sea...' A line from a poem from The Dark Is Rising book series. I have a lot more pendants like that, with different drawings/phrases written on them, but couldn't get good pictures.
