Embroidery by sewing machine
Apr. 2nd, 2006 03:36 pmYou might know these chiffon scarves that the morbid Catholics decorate the headstones on the graves of their recently deceased with. I have loved those forever and badly wanted one to wear as a veil, but have always been too well-behaved/anal-retentive to just steal one from a grave. This morning, I tried making one myself; and since I can't stitch a straight line by hand for the life of me, I used my sewing machine as a means for embroidering the two crosses.
This scarf/veil was only a test for the technique, but turned out very pretty, methinks:

If you have got any suggestions of things, details, that I should add...let me know.
I might sew some lace onto the hems or add some rhinestones or little bats to the crosses' "arms", or just leave it as it is...haven't decided yet.
