modify or not?

Two of my favorite summer dresses are the same cut: loose, flowy princess seams with inset gores--Starina, if you're familiar with that style. The gores start at a few inches below the bust. On someone willowy, this would be just fine, but I am a busty girl. Add to this that they are about a size too big, and you can imagine that this is inching up on the maternity-dress look.
I really like the dresses despite this, and I'm tempted to modify them to give them a bit better shape, but all the seams are french seams, so would take forever to unpick. If I'm going to put that much work into it, maybe I should just make similar but better dresses from scratch! Which would you do?
