May. 2nd, 2006 07:51 pmso, for my little sister's birthday, i made her a cookbook. she's currently in culinary school for baking & pastry arts, and i wanted her to have a book to write her own recipes in. so, i made it myself, from scratch!
i tore apart an old three-ring binder for the metal binding part (please, someone tell me if there is an easier way to recreate those things) and reattached it to the new spine with ntus & bolts. the cover is craft plywood covered in vinyl-covered fabric, which i was so psyched to find at michael's. i really didn't want this to be just another book... it needed to be sturdy, last a long time, deal with getting wet or burned, and most of all, be really easy to open to a certain page. (no good if the book closes on you while you're trying to read the recipe).
anywhere, here are some photos of the various pieces...sorry about the blurriness

the outside, front cover

when open (yes, i'm a dummy and glued extra fabric to the inside of the cover upside down.) with tabs for different categories of recipe!

detail of the CUTE paper i found to fill it with. go staples for specialty paper!
