(Cross-posted to
crochet,
knitting, and
knittingpretty, so apologies for those of you getting multiple dupes)
(Stolen shamelessly from
mallen's journal)
February 20-26, the Oakland Marriott is hosting "Stiches" a knitting/yarn convention type thing. General admission is $6. There are classes and dealer rooms. A full schedule can be found online at http://www.knittinguniverse.com Phone 800-237-7099, ext 19 or 27.
Additional knitting boutiques: Knitter's Studio, 648 Menlo Ave, Menlo Park, CA, 650-322-9200, open until 8 pm and draws a "friendly, helpful" crowd and offers classes. Imagiknit, 3897 18th Street, San Francisco 415-621-6642, is especially noted for a large selection of elegant (read: expensive) yarn. They also stock hip knitting patterns, old issues of knitting magazines and offer the "Knitting Doctor" who can assist you with a project snafu for $15.
I read this in the November 2002 issue of San Francisco magazine.
Additional: Imagiknit is also online at http://www.imagiknit.com/. I had a co-worker I introduced to crocheting recently visit there this weekend, and said it was a really cool place. The website looks like it is, although I'm mildly irked they don't have actual picture samples of their yarn selection.
