Okay, I've been looking around at sewing machines online (not that I can actually afford one right now) and I found this. Can someone explain to me why you would want a Game Boy as a sewing accesssory? What the hell?

Also, I'm a complete retard when it comes to sewing. I know absolutely nothing. If my mother manages to unearth her Kenmore machine when they finish renovating their basement I'm going to bring it home with me, but she doesn't know how to use it either. I'll probably sign up for a sewing class, but I really would appreciate any good books for absolute total newbie tomboys like myself that don't anything.

If my mother can't find her machine I might buy one (not for awhile though, I'm broke right now and won't start my new job for another month and a half), but I don't really have any idea what kinds of functions are useful. I know everyone's been posting questions about what kind of machine they should buy, but my question is, what if any features could you absolutely not live without on your machine? Reading these features off a website does nothing for me as I don't even know what they are talking about to begin with. Like is a 1 step buttonhole feature a LOT easier than a 4 step one? How many different types of stitches does one really need? What's the difference between a serger and a sewing machine? Does anyone know of a site that breaks this all down for idiots like me?
