[identity profile] suteki.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
Hello 52 Things Folks!  I just love that the idea ganked from ReadyMade has taken off in this community.  I love how [profile] gldvxx, [profile] sin_da_rella, [profile] haudauxilium, [profile] saintgem and others have taken the original idea and run with it.   The modified playing cards, images,  ribbon binding, and ball chain binding are all fabulous!!!

A few folks have asked how I put mine together, so I thought I'd type up some tips.   First, some have been unable to locate the directions on ReadyMade, so here's a stab at explaining.  I took 5 playing cards and glued them together for one cover (the entire book took 10, math..heh.)  I marked out where the holes should go and punched all of them, using the first card as a template.  It's much easier to punch first, then glue, unless you have freakishly strong hands - or a drill press.  I used silicone adhesive from the hardware store, which has become a crafting staple for me.

For the booklet guts, I used a template in Word to create the layout.

Go to Tools -->Select Letters and Mailings --> Select Envelopes and Labels
In the selection window, click on the label tab, then click on the Options button
You will see a drop down list, I selected "3612-Business Card" to create my template.
Click OK, which will return you to the previous selection window. Click the button "New Document" and you should then see an empty template that will look like this:

Insert a picture into each of the big frames by going to Insert --> Select Picture --> Select From File...
I centered each image in the frame, just to give myself the best cutting range around each image.

Once you've filled up a few pages, they should look like this:

I arranged the Word file so that all of the images are pointed to the left on odd pages (1,3, 5...) and all images are pointed to the right on even pages (2, 4, 6...). That way, when I print them head-to-head double sided, the final printouts all face the same direction.

I used a craft trimmer like this to cut the pages out.
