I need help!

I am moving into a new house, and have my very own bedroom to make really pretty. I am sick of the color blue, because everything I own is blue/turquoise. I have a printed quilt, and was wondering, if I could just sew fabric over it? If so, how would i go about doing it? I want to cover it in just black cotton fabric, and then sew on more chunks to make it look like a giant iPod. I have never quilted, I am alright at sewing...but, have never taken on a project so big! Any suggestions would be great.

Also, does anyone know where I can get relatively cheap canvas to paint on? If you have any ideas for interior decorating (besides what is in the memories, I checked ;) That would be fantastic!!! (I am thinking a really busy room, with lots of graffitti, collages, lights, color...) Thanks!

An old shirt I found at the thrift store for $2. It bled like crazy,  I am guessing because of the type of fabric. Or, I suck. I am thinknig it is the former though, because all my other stencils have turned out fine. Oh yeah, and I apparently hate ironing :)
