making prints at home?
Jan. 29th, 2003 04:59 pmI was at my friends house last night and he has some really neat pictures he made in a class at college. He said they are called "prints" and described the process to make them to me. You get a piece of glass or plastic the size that you want the picture to be, then you get something like origami paper and cut shapes out of it and either glue the shapes or the paper with the shapes cut out to the glass or plastic, which is the called the "plate". Then you rub this really thick ink into the plate really hard, then put the plate ink side down onto water color paper, or paper that is really thick and pourous. Then you put a towel over the whole thing and send it through this thing that looks like a really old printing press. The press has a large roller on it that you contorl with a hand crank and you can adjust the presure you put on the plate. You roll it through there a couple times and you have this REALLY neat looking picture done in ink. You can make a whole series of them by just adding another color ink over the top when you're done with the first color, it's fucking awesome!
Now that I've seen these I REALLY want to make some myself, the best idea we could come up with for doing it at home was to use a large rolling pin and body weight to do them at home. But I was wondering if anyone has ever made something like this at home and had a better idea of what equipment to use in place of the printing press thing, and any idea what kind of ink to use?
