Father's Day Goodness
Jun. 22nd, 2006 11:42 pmI wanted to share some of the gifts my kids and I made for my husband for Father's Day. My kids are 3.5 and 15 months by the way. :)
We made hand prints out of salt dough. At first I wanted them to be put in the garden but then they were so cute that I didn't want them to get all dirty. So I used hot glue to attach some buttons and ribbon to the back for hangers.

My son and I also made him a pencil holder. He and I had made some of these for his teachers for the last day of school in May. My husband commented that he needed one for work. So we made him one. It is also made out of salt dough. We covered a can, he painted it when it was dry, and I sealed it. I also sewed a liner for the can and used hot glue to attach it. My son also painted these butterfly and dragonfly wooden cut outs I found at the dollar store and he added google eyes (which he loved - got those at the dollar store too) and some buttons. I got a set of pens for $.48 - very cheap project. I love the pens. I have them all over the house now.

Here's a close-up of some of the pens.

Next is more of a gift from me. I made him these laminated punch cards - one was for me to throw the trash, one to clean out the litter box, one to clean the car and/or truck, and one gives him time to work in the workshop. They get punched as he uses them. I also gave him the actual hand punches that I'll be using. I was so pleased with them when I got them finished that I had to come up with a cute way to present them to him. I just recently made my son a blue jean quilt and I have tons of pockets leftover. So I just made a little pouch out of scraps - these actually used to be my jeans. I stuck the two punches in one pocket and the cards in the other. I also made him a pair of lounge shorts and stuffed those in the actual pouch. He really liked the cards. He hasn't used them yet - I'm surprised he didn't use the litter box one yet (I haven't cleaned the box in over 5 years - but I was pregnant during those years...and I really don't want to do it). LOL.

Here's a close-up of one of the cards.

My son also decorated a picture frame with puzzle pieces (got the frame and puzzle pieces at the dollar store - love that place for kids crafts). I put magnets on the back so my husband could hang them up on his cabinets at work.

And my husband and I made some coasters for our dads for Father's Day. He did the wood working portion and I did the pictures and sealing of the pictures. These only cost us the pictures since my husband was using up scrap wood. Can you tell we're on a budget? LOL. But the dads loved them. And neither one wants to actually use them, even though we did design them to be used.

Whew! That was a lot. But it is fun for me to craft with my kids for their daddy. I love having kids - they give me an excuse to craft - not that I really need one...
Thanks for looking.
