Paint on velvet?

craftgrrlMy friends wants me to sew him a purple velvet pillow with golden letters that say 'Satisfaction' on it for his birthday. My only question is, what can I use to put the words on velvet? Wouldn't paint crack and look terrible against it? I dunno, any suggestions would be awesome!
