okay, a little while ago i posted a lollipop camera case i made for a friend, and someone asked for a tutorial on how to put together a case like that one. my boyfriend asked for a similar case for his nintendo ds(lite), so i figured i could put together some sort of picture-how-to while i put his case together. here is what i came up with.

okay, so start with any applique you want.

and all of the pieces you'll need. i just traced the ds(lite) on card stock to create a "pattern" for the pieces i needed (in this case: a front, a back, two sides, a bottom, and the lid), leaving extra space for the sewing.

sew the applique on the front however you want.

then start sewing everything together...

this is where my picture taking stops being helpful, mostly because i was doing this at 2:00am and forgot to take pictures at some of the steps. essentially i sewed all of the pieces for both the lining and the outside of the case right side down so that when i turned the finished product inside out, it looked like this:

and i don't have any pictures, but the liner works the same way, i just didn't turn it so that the right side of the fabric faces inside, kind-of like this.

(pre-lid installation).

so at this step i did something kind-of confusing and out of order, and i added a space in the side so that the ds can charge while it is in the case (at my boyfriend's request). i didn't really know what i was doing (which was cut a rectangle into both the outside and lining, and then sew around it to prevent it from falling apart), but it turned out okay:

okay, so for the lid i put the velcro pieces in their places, and then sewed the pieces right side down on top of one another, like this:

and then flipped the piece inside-out:

i used an iron to make it nice and flat.

again, i have no pictures of a fairly difficult-to-explain step, but here i inserted the lid and sewed it into place. i folded the edges of both the liner and the case into themselves to create a smooth edge, as sort-of seen here:

and the final product looks like this:

and the happy (and tired) recipient of the case:

i apologize if this wasn't at all helpful, but i tried. if anything confuses anybody, feel free to ask. and thanks for looking.
