fabric coasters?

craftgrrlI've got so many scraps of fabrics lying around and I don't want to throw them out. They're the perfect size to make small square shaped coasters from but I was wondering how feasible it really is to make coasters from fabric. What would I back them up with? Would they get ruined easily? Do any of you make coasters? Any advice would be helpful :)
