Singer 247
Jun. 28th, 2006 05:12 amI bought my new (old) sewing machine off of eBay last week for 10 US dollars... well 25 with shipping. It's a Singer 247 from the 70's but still ran really well. Unfortunately it had some tension problems and I gave up with trying to fix it, so I took it to the shop. They did a complete "makeover" of it and it ended up being 60 dollars. It turns out I could have bought a brand new machine at Walmart for less than I've put into this thing. Furthermore, I found out my grandma had an old Singer similar to mine, just missing some pieces, that she would have given to me to get fixed up.

And here is a wallet I finished tonight. You can tell I was just using scraps of thread so there are about 3 different thread colors in this. And I hand stitched some of it because the 8 layers or so of fabric around corners and things were just too thick for the machine.
