Dear craftgrrl,

I love you all :D I would have been so lost on this thing without everybody's great advice. So, thank you!

I decided to go with someone's idea to have the mushroom popping out of a bush. So I found an image of a hill from Mario, took some artistic license, and pieced it together in about 3 hours.

the mushroom

hehe. cheesy hidden pocket on the top left of the mushroom that says ILY on the inside (ily = i love you, which we say to each other all the time). ignore my camera strap there.

I was really sick of this quilt by the time I finished the blanket and put the batting in, so instead of quilting all over, I opted just to quilt around the appliques and be done with it. Also my measurements were a little off (precision is tough on a large scale, I've found!), I ended up having to cut off three inches of gray on the right side, so the quilt ended up being sort of floppy and misshapen, but I actually like it better this way. It's cozier :) Only problem is, quilting stuff down accentuated the misshapenness, so the workmanship is - eh - subpar.

the back of the quilted hill. As you can see the fabric pulls all over the place.

this part is permanently floppy which is sort of annoying. The mushroom and hill are quilted down so I'm stuck with all this extra cloth in between the two appliques.

Like I said, the whole thing has a big comfy misshapen feel so I'm hoping the boy won't notice, but it still looks pretty shoddy on the back and stuff. Think it's worth redoing? I've developed callouses on my fingers from raising and lowering the presser foot, and have to take painkillers now because my back and right knee hurt so much from using the sewing machine :P I'm not really too keen on having to redo it, but I will suffer in the name of perfection if need be!

soo...think he'll like it?
