frogged wool yarn -- can re-spin!
Aug. 15th, 2006 05:56 pm(edited after spinning!) It's 100% wool from a Banana Republic sweater, and I tried to spin it into a thinner yarn. This is my first time spinning.

Too chunky and boring to use as is... but worth the trouble to re-spin? Worth a try at spinning, at least...

Before -- I tried to pull it thinner as I went, but it was really hard to keep the spinning momentum up at the same time.

So I fluffed it out with the cat brush...

and got some fluff.

I spun it with this dowel/cd holder spindle... note the duct tape and the piece of a binder clip. Should be heavier and more centered, but I just wanted it to work well enough to see if this yarn was worth spinning.

...and here is the result, after plying it with itself so it wouldn't just untwist all at once. The wool has a decently long staple, and doesn't take too much work to get it to stick together. But I am not a good spinner yet, and I had promised myself to start with yarn and not get into spinning. I have too many fabric projects to do first.

So I don't think I'll respin all of this! I may ply it with a nice variegated colorful thin yarn instead. Adds interest without all that hard work. And I do have wool dyes, so I could just overdye it, it's a pretty light gray.
