so my fellow clarinet quartet member brian ditched us to go to law school. i thought it'd be nice to give him a photo of the quartet and put it in a nice frame...

i got the frame from ikea. shopping there is a nightmare, i bought 3 extra frames so i don't have to go there ever again. the frame was originally this ugly bluey purple, so i sanded off most of it, then painted it with this pretty blue fabric paint, as i'm out of acrylics. i meant to sand it off unevenly so the paint would go on unevenly. then i printed out on fancy photo paper some photos of clarinets i found on teh internets, cut them out and pasted them on. cutting out around the tiny little keys totally SUCKED and i cut off some of the parts that stick out, like the posts, etc. then i covered the whole painted/decoupaged surface with a couple coats of soft gel (like modge podge). i also printed off some notes from a musical font and pasted those on.
all the clarinets on the frame are B-flat clarinets (even the top one, it was just resized), and the one on the left side of the frame is a bass clarinet. if there are any clarinet geeks here, it goes all the way down to LOW C (SEXAY!!) but unfortunately the lowest you can see is the low D key for the right pinky (still sexay!). on the top right corner of the frame, you can see "SCP" being blown out of the top clarinet...SCP stands for Squawking Crow Puppets, the name of our clarinet quartet. random, i know. oh, and the photo was taken right after our debut performance at a recital at my house last month.
btw, brian loved the gift :D
