Started out life as a plain, strapless gathered skirt dress.
Commonly seen on bridemaids and promgoers during the 80's.......and 90's....

Another complete teardown.

Took out the front panel on the bodice since the breast cups were just too far in the center of the chest, and recut news ones (out of some of the skirt material, we love huge gathered skirts....)adding about 2". Seriously....nobody grows that way.....and cut the bodice down (from the waist up) since it went past the natural waist and was as a result unflattering.
While I had it apart I decided to add on some scrap skull & crossbone lace I had, then covered the seams with strips of the netting I later used for the front swag.
I also added another piece of nylon boning to the front center seam.
Added on some other leftover spiderweb lace with small shiney bats along the top.
The bottom of the skirt got (going from the bottom up):
5" ruffle of leftover black tulle,
4" ruffle of some more of the black bat lace,
and the very last dregs of the skull lace cut into 2" strips and ruffled with a center seam.

The skirt, instead of going with a gathered look like it had, I decided to keep the front flat (since under the swag it would just look like I had a gut) and turned the extra fabric in the back to pleats.

The front of the bodice also has one of my little black & silver skull cameos decorating it......since it just needed it.

The top of the back isn't fully closed because my mannequin has a very wide chest...it closes all the way on me of course.....

I purchased this dress recently (as in the past 6 months) but promised myself I couldn't/ wouldn't touch it until I finished the wedding dress.....

Took one day start to finish.
