The pirate and mermaid
Sep. 25th, 2006 11:59 pmHere are some costumes that I made for my kids. The pirate is very loosely based on Jack Sparrow. ;-) D will have a wooden sword, but that isn't complete yet. I still need to add some beads to his pirate hair. His costume was made using a mixture of 4 different store bought patterns. Details of that are on my blog.

I love his hat. That was made using a regular hat pattern, extending the brim, and tacking it up in three spots.
E's mermaid costume is Simplicity 4043. I like this pattern and the way it has a full tail. I did not like some of the instructions and ended up constructing it on my own. There are a lot of little details added on after the costume is sewn together. The tail has a loop that she can wear on her wrist or on the hook at her waist band. I knitted a shawl for her to wear. She will wear this mostly indoors, but needed a little something in case the halter top was too cold.
