so, a little while ago, i had this idea to combine my recent jewelry-making obsession with some actual writing of mine, since i've always felt writing was underappreciated as a visual form of art, and tonight, i finally got around to putting them together.

i wrote short phrases, or took sentence-long excerpts from essays i'd already written, and printed them on vellum. then i painted (or didn't) wooden shapes and mounted the vellum onto them, and drilled a little bitty hole at the top to make them into pendants. i hope other people think this is as cool as i do. i love wearing creative writing as jewelry!

this one's light blue and reads "a summer of robins & a summer of cement, coming together as a summer of songs"

i didn't paint this one, so it's just the natural wood grain, and it reads "we danced in the strong winds that made our cheeks burn & flush like the leaves before they fell"

cream with blue trim on the edges of the pendant, this one reads "overcome by the falling snow through the window, in the dim and yellow light through the tree".

sage green, and i think this one is clear, but just in case, it says "it was almost summer & the night smelled so good".

this one is painted dark grey and reads "our tears, and fingers, and our beautiful lips, bruised & ready".

this one was also left natural wood, unpainted, and reads "you can never return without changing, never grow without leaving brittle crumbs of yourself on the ground".

well, this is a really long one, and i hesitated to use it, but i rather liked the end result of having the words be so small, you can just see lines of script. it's sort of mysterious. anyway, it's blue and i will reveal it's secret: it reads "like running across an open field in summer, and looking behind around you, especially at the sky, you can't take your eyes off it, so you don't notice the little wire fence and you trip over it, but you make it over anyway, flying for a second and falling, rolling and there's grass in your teeth and dirt smudged on your cheeks under your fingernails and all you can smell is sweat and summer and hope."

also sage green, with the hole slightly off-center, so the pendant will hang in more of a diamond than square shape, this one reads "The mountains like a dream, like love, off in the distance or suddently there, as when we drive through the winding canyons and they become bodies to cradle us."

dark grey again, this one reads "The record finishes, but turns on and on, the needle clicking into the empty room once every turn."

sage green, and again, with the hole off-center, this one reads "The chaos of seasons echoes like the exhale of the Earth, like a goodbye."

well, i was painting this one with the intention of using words over it but it was so pretty i decided to leave it as is, and will make myself a necklace of it!

here's a question: if i hope to sell some of these, do you all think i should leave them as pendants, or actually make necklaces out of them? i worry that if i leave them, people may not see their potential, but if i make them into necklaces, what if they don't like the style/bead choice/etc. but DO like the pendant? ideas?
