Cookies are crafty, yes?
Feb. 10th, 2003 07:21 amHey gang! Been lurking for a while now, decided to finally join and post my craftiness of the weekend. I suppose its actually more cooking than crafting, but I think the artistic part of it lets it be posted here :)
They are just normal sugar cookies, I rolled out the dough and used animal cookie cutters. Then bake the cookies. The frosting is the really fun part.
Frosting
Egg Whites
Powdered Sugar
Water
Take egg whites (I used 2, that makes a fair bit) and beat them until they aren't totally slimey anymore...but not too much (you don't want them fluffy or anything) then add powdered sugar and beat (I used an electric mixer) until its about the consistancy of syrup. Just keep adding powdered sugar until this happens. Add a little water at some point to make more of the mixture (for more cookies). If it comes out a little runny, thats perfectly fine, just let it sit for a few minutes and it'll thicken up.
I seperated the frosting into seperate little bowls, and added one drop of food coloring to each. Mix various colors to make other colors. This makes a yummy, colored frosting! You can also add flavorings to it if you like (available in the cooking section of MJ Designs, Hobby Lobby, etc). Then take the cookies (already baked!) and use a brush or spoon to spread the frosting. I added sprinkles and jimmies to make mine more fun.
Parents: This makes a super fun kids project, because the frosting is totally cheap and easy to clean up.

Yum! :) Thanks for letting me share :)
