The school I teach at holds a pumpkin carving contest every Halloween. The last couple of years the Show Production & Touring dept. has won. But not this year! This year, Digital Arts & Design is going to take it! Er, I hope :). My coworker, Amy and I, are representing our department with this Nautilus pumpkin! It's a plastic pumpkin bought from Michael's. We figured why work for a month on something that'll rot in less than a week, y'know?

Real betta fish in a bowl inside the pumpkin. Blue light was created by placing blue tissue paper in one of those touch lights.

Sculpture pieces were made by using Sculpy (mast head, propeller, and tentacles), pipes, and cardboard (fin). I did the pre production, carving, part of the pipes, Sculpy, and betta fish. My coworker, Amy, did the painting (coolest part ;)), lights, base, part of the pipes, and cardboard fins.

From the front. Face was sculpted out of Sculpy.

Another shot of the masthead.

From the side. We were going to make the periscope workable, but ran out of time.

Close up of periscope. The squid is one of those cocktail buddies.

From the top. The lid opens up.

Details on the side. The mermaid and fish are little drink caddies.

And one more of us with the pumpkin (better shots of my mermaid costume in a bit):

So, you think we'll win? :)
