It 'twere an ugly old sweater vest
Nov. 7th, 2006 04:11 pmPurchased at a thriftstore for .99 to have the wool reclaimed..but alas it was too matted and refused to come unfurled.......

Being the thrifty lass I am, I would not throw the sweater away, even if it was just .99, despite it already being in pieces.
So, says I, how about another purse?
Cut it into two squares, attached those onto some plain black broadcloth to stabilize it. Cut out two black felt bats that got stitched with black metallic thread to hold it on, give it more interest, and most importantly hold the sweater to the backing in the center where it would gap.
Cut apart a pair of purple vinyl pants that were way too big and already being cut apart for something else (before I actually tried them on....it was another thriftstore score, so I wasn't to pissed at my shortsightedness) backed those with interfacing and turned those pieces into the sides, strap, and top.
Kept one pocket as part of the lining to keep stuff in it's handy dandy premade pocket, also kept the loop to clip my keys onto.

Line in some black with star pattern rayon leftover from a curtain for my magick cabinet, and voila!

Took about 4-5 hours start to finish, had a couple boo boos involving the zipper which left holes in the vinyl from needing to rip and resew (boooo!) but otherwise it pulled together nicely.
X-posted.....
