Keeping cookies fresh

craftgrrlI plan on baking cookies for my holday gift baskets this year. Some of these have to be mailed, and I was wondering how long will the cookies keep fresh? Also does anyone know if it is safe to shrink wrap them? I use shrink wrap for other things like soap but I have no clue if it should come into contact with food. Thanks :)
