Question about Amigurumi

I've been looking around trying to find some pointers on embroidering faces onto crocheted amigurumi animals but I'm having no luck. My first amigurumi animal was a total disaster. It was more of a psychotic bear with googly eyes and a dilapidated nose than a cute kitty. :( Well, hopefully some of you with more experience than I can give me some pointers on what to do and what not to do. Thanks for anyone's help and sorry that this doesn't contain any pictures:)
