This year I made an advent wreath for my family. I am pleased with the results. And I made a tree skirt because I can never find one I love that doesn't cost a mini-fortune. So I bought some material last year and was pressed to make it last week since we got our tree the day after Thanksgiving!

I am happy with my advent wreath. I've never had one before. I just used votive candle holders and attached them to the wreath with wire. I did put a dab of hot glue underneath the knot of wire on the votive holder to prevent the wire from slipping too much. I also wrapped ribbon around that and tied it around the wreath where I twisted the wire. Then I just wrapped and glued other things to the wreath. I also put a huge glob of hot glue into the bottom of the votive holders to keep the candles in place. It was hard to find a holder for the candles that could be attached to the wreath easily and not cost too much. Plus this way, my candles can change in size from year to year.

I had a difficult time getting a picture to reflect the deep, richness of the fabric in the tree skirt. I bought this fabric last year and finally made it into my tree skirt! The trim I got for $ 0.25 a yard. I think it cost me about $15 total to make the tree skirt (fabric, thread, and trim). I love, love, love the material! Both are really dark and not as reflective as it seems in the picture. The red is a beautiful crimson (not pink as it seems in the picture) and the green is a deep, velvet green. I think I have enough of the green fabric to make into a table runner or possiby a new stocking for myself.
