This morning's project........
Dec. 7th, 2006 11:31 amI've had this pair of Docs for over 10 years now, and have worn them about once for each year.

It was time to:
Pimp my Doc Martens.........
I just am not a white boots kind of girl.
But being the thrifty and fashionable lass that I am, I could not get rid of perfectly good boots.....even if we're getting ready to move.
So after perusing Ebay last night, and looking at all the docs for sale, I came up with an idea for them.
So this morning I:
Cleaned them down with rubbing alcohol.
Thinned down some Eileens tacky glue with water.......
Cut up some lace (don't worry it didn't use much, plus it was $1.00 a yd)
Taped over all the rubber, including the vinyl bands at the top, and stuffed them with junk mail (can you think of a better use?)

I had originally intended to adhere the lace using hairspray, since it worked for a prelim piece of leather, but it didn't for the whole boot.
So I brushed down the lace with the glue solution, and sprayed out the lace holes that got gummed with glue with canned air.
And using patience and chopsticks covered the boots with the lace, trying to overlap as little as possible.
Then while the glue was still slightly damp took them outside and lightly sprayed them with black gloss enamel.
End product:

Much nicer boots.
I kept the spray uneven for effect since I had overlap areas, plus the lace wouldn't stick to some of the creased areas, leaving the image more blurry and ghosty like.
They and I, am much happier now, and they will get much more love in the future.
K. Bye now!
*edit: I forgot to mention, I pulled the lace off while the glue and spraypaint was still slightly wet so it would come off easier.
I also, after the paint had dried some more then washed off any glue residue off the boots with some dishwashing soap and a sponge. There were a couple areas where the glue had pooled a bit and then got painted that came off when I washed, but I just used some of the lace bits to touch up with more paint.
