Pattern {Drafting?} Help
Dec. 27th, 2006 02:19 amI've been lurking here for a bit and I've decided it's finally time to come out. Except... all I have is a question. So! Here it is!
One of my favourite and first j-rock loves is coming to Philadelphia on February 6. It took me until Christmas Eve to realize that I really didn't have a visual kei appropriate outfit. So I put my insomnia to use and sketched out s few designs, finally ending up with the one below.

So I scanned it in and colored it in Photoshop real quick like. I'd already figured out my materials (mostly broadcloth, zippers, metal studs, maybe some leather or PVC, mesh, and lace) and a color scheme (wine red, black, and white) but as I filled in the colors to see how it would look, I ran into yet another problem: how the hell was I going to make a pattern for this straight jacket inspired top? I figured that lengthening the sleeves would make something wonky so I did what I always do when I'm vaguely confused: I googled it. I got a lot of things for big and tall stuff. So I came here. And now I pose my question to you. How should I go about drafting this top? Don't worry about the starps that go everywhere for the moment. They're going to be laid over it (not sure if it'll be after it's done or not) and sewn with a contrasting thread then frayed to (hopefully) give a deconstructed look. Also, should I put a zipper in the back so I don't have any major troubles putting it on? I'll probably end up wearing this a few times, simply because I kinda think it's awesome. Any other help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Again, for anyone who didn't feel like reading my ramble, here's my dilemma:
1. How should I go about drafting a pattern for the top in this design?
2. Should I put a zipper at the back of said top so I can put it on?
3. Any other advice to help me out?
