Well I was lucky enough to see both of Idina Menzel's final shows playing Elphaba in London's Wicked. And as Helen (Glinda) said, probably the final time she would ever play the role of Elphaba (but we won't think about that right now). As my friends and I were front row for both, we felt we needed to join in. So both of us dressed as Elphie. It was a hit with the cast, grabbed their attention, and they were wonderful and two of the most heartbreaking performances I've ever seen.

Mine was Elphaba when she goes to the Oz Dust. I don't have many full body shots, as it was downright FREEZING that day and I was keeping my coat firmly on while outside. But what I'm most proud of is the hat.

The dress is made from just a plain navy cotton drill. Lovely stuff to work with. I think the original (I was studying the costumes when I was watching) is made from a really light wool kinda material. But it's hard to tell really. I drew the pattern myself, based on the American version of the costume. I didn't have good enough photos of the UK version. It's not spot on, alas I wish I could of made it spot on but good photos are hard to come by, but I was happy with it.

It took me about one and a half evenings to do after running home late from work.

The hat is made from heavy demin, and then a lot of stiff interfacing ironed onto that as well to give it body. I cut the pattern myself as well, and apart from the back seam, everything had been hand stiching (and god didn't my fingers feel it!). The tip of the hat has a small peice of wire stiched into the back seam just to help keep the top bent. If I could do one thing, change the petersham edging to navy. I had to order it last minute, and I got a phonecall telling me they had run out and wouldn't be able to get it to me over christmas once the navy arrived, so black it was!

Needless to say I loved being green, cannot wait to do it again. Walking through London is extra fun and you can clear a path in a busy station most marvelously!

Hopefully one day I'll have the chance for some proper posed photos completely in my outfit, but seeing both shows in one day, and the mania around them, it was just a bit rushed.

(I couldn't find the right green tights for my arms, nor had time to make the right colour, but greening my arms with the makeup for a full day would of just not been practical).

As I have pink hair, "I clash with everything" (little quote for those who know the show ;p) so I had to wrap my head in black material to just off set the pink slightly. It looked so wrong without the wrap.

And claim to fame, Julie Waters was in the audience of the last show and was staring at my friend and I. Which is cool for me because I love her as an actress and was funny to think she was staring at us instead of the other way round.

Best thing is my theatre is currently playing Wizard of Oz, so I can wear my hat to work (I would go green but it would mess up my uniform). It's a hit with the cast and the customers.
