Possible to graft knitted and crochet squares?

I don't know how to crochet, so I'm not sure how this would work, but is it possible to graft together a knit square and a crochet square if they're the same size? I'm sort of in charge of a new knitting/crochet group for church and we want to make either blankets or prayer shawls, but I think an easy way to begin is to have people make squares and then graft them together. However, some are exclusive at knitting and at least one woman only does crochet. I want to make sure this is possible before I implement it - is it?
