Another decorated Wal Mart tote.
Jan. 29th, 2007 11:09 pmI've been (sporadically) reworking $2 tote bags from Wal Mart. I've finished another one (previous efforts are here and here in case anyone is interested) and it is a bit more of the same, except on a black tote bag. I'd like to hear what you like/don't like about this one (just like you guys have done for me in the past), along with any suggestions you may have to make this one (or the next one, really) better.

I'm happy with the end result, but looking at it now I'm wondering if more silver paint over the heart would have been better...

I drew the heart using Crayola fabric markers on plain muslin. I ironed it on with fusible webbing and did a decorative running stitch around it to secure it more and also to make it seem more like a patch than an iron-on. I bought these felt letters that were also stickers from JoAnn Fabrics and stuck them all on there very randomly as my stencil of sorts. The spray paint is standard metallic silver (Krylon I think, also from Wal Mart).

Detail of the metallic spray paint.

I frayed the edges of the heart. That "distressed" look seems to be very popular right now! You can also see the cool bits of spray paint on the heart.

Detail of the stitching around the heart.
Well, what do you think?
