craftgrrl | Four new crafty things!

These were a gift for my sadly-now-former coworker Taha's girlfriend, Tanya. (Did you catch all that?) Tanya is fantastic. They recently moved to LA, so this turned into a belated-Christmas/going-away present for her. The cards are made from old maps of the area and showcase either a DC landmark or her neighborhood. I made the envelopes (below), too, which are from a less-flimsy map and include double-sided tape on the flap for when she wants to send it.

Next up are the notecards I made for Jessica (

montanajlo), my friend from college. She moved to Germany with her husband this summer. I found these maps of Germany at the recent Arlington book fair, so I immediately snatched them up for this project. (I also found an Australian tourist map in Japanese - hawesome.) I made four envelopes from old DC maps (below), and four from plain white cardstock (no pics). Again, I double-sided-taped the flaps.

Lastly for the notecards, I gifted these to my friend Orlaina (

dehydrated).

These are made of old airline safety cards. They were a ridiculous amount of fun to make.

I made envelopes in the same colors as the notecards. They are mix-n-match.

I made this for my friend for Christmas. True to form, I finished it about two weeks ago. That's just how I roll.

Ingredients:
One (1) empty box of Cheezits for cover board
One (1) old accounting book from the back of your office's supply cabinet that no one knew was there and that no one will ever use
One (1) old map
embroidery floss
some other miscellaneous stuff

The inside is green-and-white accounting book paper. I like lines.

The inside cover pages are a map of the region, so he won't get lost when doing his infrequent driving. Theoretically. They were supposed to be the cover, but I forgot to cut them larger than the cover. Whoops. Live and learn.

The spine. It came out pretty well, and the threads make their pretty little braid on all the interior holes, but I couldn't get it to do it on the top and bottom ones because of the nature of how the coptic instructions go. Any ideas for compensating for that?

Thanks to the numerous people in the

handmadebooks community who talked about how fabulous upholstery needles are. I bought one before starting and it probably saved me a lot of frustration.
