Etsy?

I really love Etsy-- so much amazing stuff on there! What I'm wondering, though, is whether it's actually a profitable way for an individual to sell their own work, or if it's simply the *easiest* way. I have a site for my main business, but I was thinking of trying to sell paintings and painted utilitarian objects on there, but thought I'd inquire about it before I went to the expense/trouble of listing them.

So, out of curiousity, those of you who've sold stuff on Etsy for a while, have you managed to sell a fair amount? What type of craft(s) were you selling?
