So I received a shirt that I ordered on the internet today. I ordered an adult small, but it is definitely larger than all the other adult smalls I own (and really, what else is new? Sizing sucks).

I am extremely inexperienced with a sewing machine, though I do own one, which is a start! I would like to make the new shirt the size of a shirt that I think fits me better.

The shirt that I got is the green one. The shirt I want it to be the same size as is the white one. Now, the bottom is pretty straightfoward and I'm pretty sure I could do that easily.

It's the sleeves I don't quite understand. I don't want to completely remove them because I'm fairly sure that in my inexperienced hands, that's asking for trouble. So I know I may not be able to fix the top bit, and I'm okay with that.

But what is going to be the best way to fix the bottom bit? It looks like where the sleeve starts should be about a half inch higher and they should be skinnier/smaller. Is it logical to think I could just turn the green shirt inside out, draw lines on it comparing it to the smaller shirt, and sew along those lines?

And if that IS the way to do it, what sort of stitch should I use to make sure it doesn't fall apart in the wash?
