So... A few months ago I Batiked these ties and scarf, and started to knit the scarf. After finishing each thing and getting halfway done with all- I finally finished them! Friday I steamed and rinsed the batiks (they had all been dyed, but they're usless before they are steamed and rinsed), and finished knitting the scarf. I'm really proud of all of them, especially the ties. I'm really into batik, but had been a little afraid of how the ties would turn out since I'd never dyed ties before, and was also trying out the water-soluable gutta for the first time. With the knit scarf, I'm happy because I like the yarn, but I'm not exactly a knitter, so it's just one of those things for me. I'll have to get my boyfriend to show me how to make a hat, and then maybe I'd enjoy it more. I'd also like to learn more stiches, but I'll have to have him figure it out and show me first (I can't learn from books- I'm too visual). Anyways! Pictures!

close up/action shot of knit scarf. its probably about 6 feet long.

close up again, and the fring on the end.

far-away shot of the elephant tie... he's blowing bubbles out of this trunk!

a little closer...

super-close detail! I used salt to get the texture on both the elepahnt and the background.

far-away...

close-up of the bottom, where the octopus is... you can see where it ran around the gutta a bit by the tenticles, but i like it just fine like that. :)

super-close on the tenticles up towards the top... i like how they turned out a lot.

the whole scarf is about 11"x60"

action on the head- side veiw!

action on the head- other side! I hold them on my head with pins (you can see the silver one)

action shot on the head- the front.

far-away...

towards the top...

close up! I used salt on the black to get some texture, which looked really cool next to the world on top.
the story (generally) of the turtle tie is that a man was telling the myth of the world creation, and says that the world sits on the top of a turtles back. a person raises their hand and asks him what the turtle sits upon. to this he responds, "on the back of another turtle". the person asks what this turtle sits upon. he says, "on the back of another turtle". this exchange goes on for several more turtles, and finally the storyteller tells the audience "it's turtles all the way down."
this story, of course, sounds much better when it's told in person, and not by a person that is unable to tell even a joke well. :)
but there you have it! hope everyone enjoyed! hopefully I'll have more soon, once I get my lab set up in my new apt!
