handmade face paint?

well i have this science fair coming up and i need to come up with a topic.
since im quite crafty i decided to do somehting relating to art and came up with
face painting. CATCH: I HAVE TO MAKE THE PAINT MYSELF! i already tried one recipe
and it came out horrible. have any of your tried this before? if so what did you use?
