for the longest time i've been hoarding vintage sheets with the intent of using them to make skirts and accessories, but for some reason i never got past the "accessories" bit. well, no more! this past week, i was bitten by an impulse to whip up a cute a-line skirt. and so i did.

the angle of the foto is making it look more boxy than a-line, but it fits like a dream.
recycled skirt! i'm so in love. it's made of vintage sheets + a few pieces of linen, bits and bobs and a handful of pretty vintage buttons. the pocket is big enough to hold a small paperback or sketchbook, and there's elastic in the back for fitting + flattering. i didn't take any pictures of the inside, but all seams are finished and the hem + waist are folded over -- it's survived its first two trips through the wash with no complaints, so hooray!

pocket detail: see the lace + the lovely wrinkly linen? i ♥ it.

this one was the prototype, in which Lila is reminded of the cardinal rule of clothesmaking: measure your fat ass before drafting the pattern. i breezed along, using a skirt i already owned as a template, not even stopping to think about obvious things like it had a zipper. consequently, i can't even squeeze the damn thing over my hips, which is really a shame because i love it. no worries, though: i'm giving it to a friend who can squeeze into it. ;D
also: placemats for a friend. she's not on eljay so i'm safe showing 'em off here before she gets them, heehee.

made with linen (i ♥♥♥ linen) and some of the awesomest printed cotton ever. Alexander Henry, i love you. there's contrasting psuedo-quilting for decoration + strength, and they're fully reversible and machine washable. i think she'll adore them.
