How to make a pendant in clay
Jun. 3rd, 2007 04:55 pmI'm not sure how much use it is but I've seen the question on the community before: How to add a hanger to my clay xyz. This is one way and I was writing it up for my site-blog so I figured I'd toss it over here. It's a technique I use a lot for my 'fast' pendants at craft sales but you could add it to your transfer / decoupage clay pendant (those seem popular now).
The tools you need: a jump ring (7mm here), a knife or blade, the clay blob, something to smooth the seam with and some liquid clay to reinforce it all -

Minor surgery on the clay piece -

Tuck in the jump ring -

Smooth and add a little liquid clay for reinforcement then bake as normal -

If you do this wearing latex gloves you'd get something smooth and not need a lot of sanding. I was a dolt. The blobs here are from a tutorial on Polymerclaycentral.com
If you make a dramatically bigger pendant or longer one use a squiggle of wire with a loop turned at the top instead of just a jump ring. Give the pendant something to grip. In the hundreds of these I've done I haven't had a loop come out yet.
