baby book help

(I searched through the memories and got some good ideas but hoping for some more...)

So a friend is having a baby in a few weeks. One of the things she's asked for from people are baby/childrens' books. I'd also love to give her something homemade. Those felt baby book names I saw in the memories are sooo cute but they won't know the sex of the baby until it is born and I'd like to get a head start on the book ASAP.

My sewing ability is OK (I can sew simple hand stitches and use my machine) but I'm not super advanced. I was thinking of doing one of those "Pat the Bunny" books- with interactive/touch activities. I've come up with a few ideas (well, modified a few ideas from the original book...) but I'm generally not very creative with coming up with my own ideas!! So does anyone out there have any ideas?!?

Also, I'm thinking it would be best to make the book out of felt. Perhaps white pages so I can write easily on them. Any suggestions on what types of pens I can use? Or would people suggest something else for the pages??
