Screen Printing Problems
Jun. 26th, 2007 08:27 pmI bought a Speedball screen printing kit and have had a hell of a time with it so far. I did a little bit of screen printing in high school but we never used photo emulsion and thats been the biggest hassle so far. Once I finally exposed my screen correctly, and made a test print it looked great, so I grabbed my cloth and slapped the the screen over that, then attempted a second print--no such luck.
The ink only went through the screen in splotchy areas, so I thought maybe I needed to clean it and try again. Washed the screen, then the shirt, and grabed a second shirt while the first one dried, and tried again. The print that looked beautiful and crisp the first time was splotchy and gross looking again.
Now, I'm trying to remove the emulsion with the remover from the kit and it's being difficult. Is there a trick to using emulsion remover? Should I just buy more material and try again? Where can I even get cloth and the cord/tool to wedge it into the frame? Should I give up and pay the thirty bucks or whatever to have it done at a shop?
Thanks in advance for any advice you all may have.
