Harry Potter Ties
Jul. 5th, 2007 11:54 pmI know I'm not giving myself much time here, but I just now decided I want a Harry Potter-style tie to wear to the movie premier next week (among other costume bits) and possibly to the book release the following week. What I want is a Ravenclaw tie, but with the book colours. (Blue and bronze, not blue and silver like they show in the movies. *Geek*) However, I reeeeeeally don't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for one when I could (presumably) make it myself.
So.
How would I go about doing this? Can I buy navy blue satin and paint bronze stripes on with fabric paint? Should I stencil it? (I've only done freezer paper stencils; screen printing is not an option for me.) Should I get blue satin and bronze satin and sew stripes together, then make the tie?
And how does one go about making a tie without buying an expensive pattern? I only really need it for a few hours, first outside the theatre (yes, I know I can buy tickets in advance, but camping out is half the fun!) and then inside the theatre, and it will be quite dim in both places. So it needn't stand up to intense scrutiny. I just don't want to look stupid.
So.... any tips, on any of those points? Much appreciated, gals!
