Lined basket
Jul. 18th, 2007 09:56 pmIn preparations for my yearly pilgrimage to the largest gathering of medieval re-creationists on the continent (and maybe the world) the 36th Annual Pennsic War I decided it was time to re-line my favorite basket.
For those unfamiliar with the concept of "handbasket" outside Little Red Riding Hood, when you're out in a dress camping your rarely have pockets or a reasonable purse and when you want to carry around a hand-craft plus your wallet, flashlight, notebook, lunch money, sunscreen, water bottle, bottle opener, latest shiny bobble, sunglasses, camera, phone, lighter, pocket knife, watch, and granola bar, then you carry a basket. However, that means it often weights about a ton and you can't find any of the aforementioned things.
So year before last I made a silly little "organizer" out of muslin cotton which didn't fit very well but was serviceable. Tonight I used all I learned from that project to make a new out out of an old pair of jeans.

The outside

Inside while empty

Close up of pockets while in use

Close up of how the drawstring ties under the handle pivot. The seam is just open round the pivot point and starts on the other side.
The whole thing is a glorified drawstring bag, which is doubly nice since if I spill anything into it (which I will eventually) I can take it off and wash it.
I'm happy to answer any questions about it.
