cross stitch framing question

craftgrrlHey there crafties! I need some help finishing a present that I've made for my friend's birthday, and so far I've had no luck finding what I need.
I need to know if a)cross stitch material (with or without stitching on it) can be ironed if I'm really careful and b)what would be the best way to frame it so it's nice and taut but doesn't show staples or anything?
Once I get it all framed, I'll put a picture up here, I promise.
