ravenclaw robe
Jul. 22nd, 2007 11:51 pmput down my crochet hooks for a while and dug out my sewing machine...

robes are entirely unflattering garments! whipped this up in a couple of days for the book release... i originally wasn't going to dress up, but then i figured that it's the last book and i might as well go all out! i used simplicity 5840 and the modifications from this site: http://www.geocities.com/myfortunatestars/poarobes.html and a few of my own mods. i didn't know how much lining fabric to get and i only bought the fabric that the pattern required for the black, forgot to get some black for the lining. so i just lined the front half of the robe and lined it all in blue instead of just the stripe. i also made the tie... just tore up an old tie i had, used the silk for the pattern and recycled the lining of the tie. i painted the stripes on myself, but they didn't turn out well. and i made the wand using that tutorial that was posted here a while ago. it's a pretty hack job of sewing, but it looked good enough for me to get lots of compliments! i wanted to set myself apart from any other ravenclaw students i ran into, so i went as marietta edgecombe - it says sneak across my nose if you can't make it out.
thanks for looking! ^_^
